Team from South Middle School Wins 31st Annual WVU Pumpkin Drop

On a day that saw 355 pumpkins survive the 11-story drop from atop West Virginia University’s Engineering Sciences Building, it was team 314 from South Middle School in Morgantown that took top honors in the 31st Annual Pumpkin Drop. Their pumpkin landed just one-foot from the target, earning them the $100 first prize.

Team 35 from Saint Francis Central Catholic in Morgantown finished second, landing its pumpkin one-foot, 11-inches from the target. They were awarded a check for $50.

Team from Greater Beckley Christian School wins 30th Annual WVU Pumpkin Drop

While nearly 400 pumpkins flew off the roof of West Virginia University’s Engineering Sciences Building one—from team No. 102A from the Greater Beckley Christian School in Prosperity —not only survived the 11-story drop but landed closest to the target.

The winning pumpkin landed two-feet, four-inches from the target, earning them the $100 Pumpkin Drop first prize.

Mechanical Engineering Students Place in Human Powered Vehicle Challenge

A team of students from West Virginia University placed in two categories at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, held recently in Cookeville, Tennessee.

The HPVC provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate the application of sound engineering design principles in the development of sustainable and practical transportation alternatives. Students work in teams to design and build efficient, highly engineered vehicles for everyday use—from commuting to work to carrying goods to market.

Team from Mountaineer Middle School Wins 29th Annual WVU Pumpkin Drop

On a day that saw a record number 110 pumpkins survive the 11-story drop from atop WVU’s Engineering Sciences Building, it was team No. 57 from Mountaineer Middle School in Morgantown that took top honors in the 29th Annual Pumpkin Drop. Their pumpkin landed just two-feet, one-inch from the target, earning them the $100 first prize.

Two teams tied for second place, with their pumpkins landing just two-feet, 11-inches from the target. Gilmer County High School team No. 138 and team No. 132 from Fairmont Catholic Grade School were both awarded checks of $50.
